Description
100% Syrah
Vineyards: 136 Hectares including 98 hectares for red. Grown on the left bank of the Rhone River, in soil laced with granite and fluvio-glacial deposits. Vines are planted on the legendary steep terraces of the Hermitage appellation. Exceptional sun exposure in a south-oriented area protected from northern winds.
Viticulture & Vinificaiton: Handpicked harvest on steep terrace. Long and classic vatting (3 weeks to 1 month approximately), including a careful maceration, and warm runoff directly into French oak barrels. Fermented and partially aged in finest French oak ageing barrels (of which about 50% are new) for almost 18 months.
Winemaker’s Notes: Wild black fruits. Mineral notes and toasty oak. A complex and elegant bouquet with notes of violets and menthol. Great amplitude and smoothness. The tannic attack is firm but has a nice grain that accompanies the wine on the length. The power and spice notes are balanced with deep black fruit. Serve with duck breast with red berries, Hare “a la royale”, game casserole cooked in a wine sauce, tasty grilled or stewed meats.
92 Points “Another terrific lineup from what’s probably the top co-op in the world… a terrific Hermitage to drink over the coming decade.” – J.D., The Wine Advocate.
