Description
With less than 200 ha, Saint-Georges Saint-Emilion is the smallest appellation close to Saint-Emlion appellation. Chateau Macquin was created by Albert Macquin, first agronomic engineer to plant again after the philoxera. It is a 31 ha vineyard, mainly Merlot planted, giving strong wines, generous, almost as famous as Saint Emilion wines.
45 year old vines (avg.), 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Wine Making: Mechanical harvest in stainless steel and thermo-regulated vats. 1/3 in oak barrel during 12 months. 25% of new oak.
Tasting Note: Intense nose with blackcurrant and raspberry and spicy notes with (cinnamon and pepper). Nice and supple and concentranted wine with ripe and silky tannins.
Food Pairings: Beef stew, roasted chicken, duck fillet.
